Description

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development was established under the LI 1961 with vision and mission which seeks to address the needs and aspirations of the citizens, especially the vulnerable in society.

VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

To take the lead in integrating the disadvantaged, vulnerable and excluded in mainstream of development

MISSION:

The mission of the department is to work in partnership with individuals, families, groups, and communities to improve their social well-being through their active participation in promoting development with equity.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT:

To facilitate the mobilization and use of available human and materials resources to improve the living standards of individuals, groups, families and communities within an effectively decentralized system of administration. To prevent and respond to social exclusion and mal adjustment within the context of national and sub-national development efforts

  • Child rights promotion and protection programme.
  • Community care programme.
  • Justice Administration programme.
  • Mass Education programme
  • Home science extension programme
  • Adult education programme

    GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT:

  • To facilitate community –based rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
  • To assist and facilitate provision of community care services such as registration of PWDs, assistance to the aged, hospital welfare services.
  • To register and supervise early childhood development centers.
  • Assist to organize Community Development Programme as adult education mobilize voluntary contribution and communal labour to improve and enrich standards of living.
  • Teach deprived women in home management and child care.
  • Mobilize and trains voluntary leaders and Community Base Organizations as change agents in the community.
  • Provide extension services to Government and NGOs.
  • Facilitate roll out of the child protection through community engagement and dialogue.
  • Justice Administration/assist children and adult in contact and conflict with the law.
  • Facilitate registration and supervision of NGOs and their activities in the municipality.
  • Assist to maintain specialized residential service in the municipality..
